BERGEN COUNTY’S ICONIC SPORTS BAR… THE ORANGE LANTERN

The Orange Lantern has been a staple of the Paramus community since 1933 and has remained popular with the locals by keeping prices fair and the events and activities that they love for decades. Located on Firehouse Lane off of Route 17, this crowd welcomes plenty of travelers as well as their usual clientele to take a load off and enjoy some of their most popular dishes and a well stocked bar. You may already know them for their homemade roast beef or wings but they have plenty more to offer!

Frank Pelligra has worked as a manager at the Orange Lantern for three and a half years and is passionate about his position and the establishment. In an industry that is known for a high attrition rate, the O.L. has managed to keep most of their employees for years. On any given day you will be welcomed by the friendly faces you know and love like Patrick and Brenda who combined have close to 50 years within this local structure. Proud people of North Jersey are what make this establishment significant. Not only do their staff maintain their loyalty but generations have frequented for decades. Not to go unnoted- civil servants such as the local fire department and PD are more than welcome and often make an appearance during down time.

If you’re looking for weekly specials, be sure to come in for happy hour from 5pm – 8pm, Monday through Friday. With $3.00 pints and bucket specials sponsored by Sam Adams during March Madness, you can enjoy a night out without having to dig too deep into your pockets; all while enjoying the games and entertainment. The Orange Lantern has the NFL Sunday ticket, local sports, dart league on Thursdays and always welcomes race fans! With Formula 1 one coming up you can count on O.L. to keep you up to speed with the current updates!

This summer there are plenty of exciting things to look forward to. The goal this summer is to revive the live music community in the area and bring a younger dynamic to the scene. As one of the few bars left that still maintains not only live music but an open mic as of late, The Orange Lantern is choosing to reinvigorate and expand. Currently karaoke Wednesdays have taken it up a notch and next week will be the final to an “American Idol” esq competition that has gone on for weeks now. The prize is a $200 Visa gift card sponsored by Amstel which will be awarded to the best out of the last 5 weeks of competition – including one of the staff herself, Alyssa, whose talent keeps them coming back for more. Summer at the O.L. will also mean a country series every Friday and Saturday with DJs, BBQ and drink specials for all you country lovers.

The Orange Lantern will always be proud to be the oldest bar in Paramus but is determined to keep up with the times while keeping tradition alive. Whether you’re a trivia buff (Trivia Tuesdays), want to get your poker face on (Poker Mondays) or just need a late night with some friendly faces (open until 3:00 AM daily), be sure to make a trip out to The O.L. And be sure to try a healthy portion of roast beef while you’re there!
