One of the benefits of having a 7 year old daughter is that I learn something new every day. I used to pride myself on always having a remarkable intuition as to who would be the next big thing. I made my living guessing right when it came to future pop culture icons. But as I grow older I have no shame admitting my “who’s going to be popular next” radar is a wee out of sync. So how lucky am I to have my little mini-me sitting in on our monthly magazine editorial meetings to advise us experts on what’s lame and what’s not so lame.
Apparently, what’s not so lame is Pennywise. I really never had an interest in killer clowns until my daughter enlightened me on the “It” movie genre. Now why my child knows so much about killer clowns is a story for another day. Anyway, back to Pennywise. What could make for a better cover story than a terrifying clown who kills children and than years later kills the adults who managed to escape his deadly rampage? Killer clown’s are very hip. “The Joker” has broken box off records and the “It” franchise is making Pennywise very Moneywise.
Therefore, I hope you enjoy our October cover story thanks to the strong recommendation of my daughter Poppi. Of course what would would a Halloween Special Issue be without our year’s best costume ideas. Word of advice: A Donald Trump mask with an “Impeach me” or “2020” sign won’t win you any prizes and may even get your ass kicked. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
But I wasn’t going to let a child edit the entire issue. One person Poppi has never heard of [yet] is 70 year old rocker Alice Cooper. Twenty years before there was a Marilyn Manson or Rob Zombie there was Alice. The original is always the best and this iconic music legend is still performing to sold out crowds and as demonic as ever. I think you’ll enjoy our chat.
This is our eighth annual Halloween issue. I’m so proud of Metropolis Nights and I’m honored the editor and publisher of New Jersey’s only nightlife and entertainment magazine. So much work and effort goes into putting out a magazine like MN and after 30 years I’m as excited today as I was when I first put pen to paper (Literally). I hope you enjoy what we’ve put together for you.
Oh, apparently there’s someone named Billie Eilish who’s kinda popular according to Poppi.
Stay tuned. Chaunce Hayden Publisher
